On October 1, 2023, on X (formerly Twitter), the Boston Red Sox announced the sad news that one of their former players, pitcher Tim Wakefield, had died at the age of 57 years old. His cause of death was brain cancer.

Less than 5 months later, the Wakefield family is grieving another devastating loss in their family. Tim’s widow, Stacy Wakefield has also died. Once again, the Red Sox shared the sad news on X. This time, they released a statement written by Stacy’s family.

The statement explains that Stacy was at her home in Massachusetts at the time of her death. “She was surrounded by her family and dear friends, as well as her wonderful caretakers and nurses.”

Her family went on to describe her death as “unimaginable” especially because they are still grieving Tim’s death. Stacy’s family wrote, “Our hearts are beyond broken.”

Stacy’s family remembers her as “strong, loving, thoughtful and kind.” They added, “We take comfort in the fact that she will be reunited with Tim, the love of her life.”

Stacy’s family ended the statement by thanking “the doctors, nurses and caretakers who helped her from diagnosis to today.” They wrote, “We are eternally grateful for your unmatched care and support.”

The statement did not include a cause of death, but according to Spectrum News, her cause of death was pancreatic cancer. This unconfirmed cause of death was stated by Tim’s former Red Sox teammate Curt Shilling during a podcast that was recorded just days before Tim’s death. During the podcast, Curt announced that Tim had brain cancer and Stacy had pancreatic cancer.

TODAY reports that Stacy is survived by her two children, Brianna and Trevor. She was only 53 years old. Watch the video below to learn more about this sad news from the Wakefield family.
