They’ve Finally Figured Out What The ‘Black Hole’ In The Middle Of The Pacific Ocean Is

Ever wonder if there is a secret military base existing among our world? Well, there might be, and Google Maps is giving us some clues.

A dark mass discovered in the middle of an island in the central Pacific aOcean quickly went viral for being a possible “censored” destination. The picture of the island, called Vostok Island, was shared on a popular Reddit thread about strange Google Maps discoveries. The caption read, “what the F**K this looks nothing like an island.”

And that user was right. The photo certainly did not appear to resemble your typical island how they usually appear on Google Maps. In fact, many people who saw the post agreed that it looks like it was being censored.

“My first thought was that it’s censored. It wouldn’t make sense for a natural formation to be black like that in such a shallow, small atoll/island,” someone observed.

Others joked about what the island really looked like, if it were to be an inanimate object.

“God dropped his guitar pick,” someone said.

“I thought it was a hole in a leather seat,” another person added.

Okay, so while the mysteriousness in us really wants it to be something like a censored island, truth be told other (more level headed people) say Vostok is just a regular place, and the reason it looks censored is due to its actual appearance of the island.

“What you see as black is actually very dark green, it’s a very dense forest made up of Pisonia trees,” someone commented.

“It’s surrounded on three sides by water, making it a peninsula,” another added.

Oh well—we’re going to keep thinking there’s some creepy censored island out there. There’s certainly something strange about the photo!

Vostok Island is actually an incredible place. In fact, one man named Enric Sala had one of the best dives he’s ever had off of it. Watch as he describes the massive schools of fish, sharks, and beautiful coral he saw while studying this pristine coral reef in the video below!
