Shannen Doherty Reveals Why She Was Fired From ‘90210’

Actress Shannen Doherty, who may be best known for the role she played on the TV series “Beverly Hills 90210,” is opening up about why she was ultimately fired from the show that made her famous.

Doherty started as Brenda Walsh on the show, the twin sister of Brandon Walsh, who was portrayed by actor Jason Priestly. Recently, the two former co-stars had a conversation about “90210” and what was going on in Doherty’s personal life that led to her exit from the show.

On Doherty’s podcast “Let’s Be Clear with Shannen Doherty,” Priestly had a conversation with the actress about their experiences on the show, and she was very open and honest about how it all went down. She shared, “I definitely went through a lot of growing pains on that show.”

During season 4 of the hit show, Brenda decided to pursue acting in England, and her character was written off the show. It wasn’t a choice that Doherty made. The producers fired her.

On the podcast, Doherty explained that she was showing up late for work, and it was a big inconvenience for the cast and crew of the show. She also explained why she was showing up late. She said that at the time she was in a “really horrible marriage.” She added that the circumstances of her marriage “made it really hard for [her] to consistently be on time for work.”

The marriage she was talking about was her marriage to Ashley Hamilton. They tied the knot in 1993 and filed for divorce one year later in 1994.

Doherty took full responsibility for the situation that led to her getting fired. She said, “It wasn’t anybody’s responsibility but mine, but I certainly wish that I had been sort of sat down and sort of looked at and said, ‘Listen, the end result is going to be this, you are going to get fired because none of us are willing to put up with it anymore.'”

Doherty went on to explain that she now realizes that it wasn’t acceptable for her to let her personal life impact her professional life, but she also realizes that she probably should have been more honest with the show’s producers and her costars about what she was going through. At the time her dad was “super sick” and her husband was “a massive drug addict” who could be “incredibly violent.”
