Utah State Football Player Passed Away At 22
Andre Seldon Jr., Utah State football cornerback, passed away from an apparent drowning on July 20. He was 22.
Per the Cache County Sheriff’s report, there was a search on Saturday afternoon in the water at Porcupine Reservoir. This is the area where Seldon was cliff diving and failed to resurface. His body was recovered by The Utah Department of Public Safety dive team at about 9:05 p.m Saturday.
Utah State posted a statement, and athletic director Diana Sabau said, Our Utah State University Athletics family is devastated over the sudden death of Andre Seldon Jr. We extend our deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, teammates, and all who loved Andre.”
Seldon was preparing for his fifth college football season. The Michigander was at the University of Michigan for his first two years, then another two years at New Mexico State. This was going to be his first season with Utah State in 2024.

“Our football program is heartbroken to have to endure the loss of one of our own,” Utah State coach Nate Dreiling said. “Having had a previous relationship with Andre during our time together at New Mexico State, I can tell you he was an incredible person and teammate. Our condolences and prayers go out to Andre’s family as we grieve with them over this tremendous loss.”
Andre Seldon Jr. was born and raised in Belleville, Michigan. He had always demonstrated a natural talent and passion for football. Standing at 5’9” and weighing around 170 pounds, he didn’t possess the typical size of a defensive back. However, his agility, speed, and football knowledge set him apart on the field.
Seldon’s high school career at Belleville High School was nothing short of spectacular. As an amazing cornerback, he quickly received attention for his ability to shut down opposing receivers and make crucial plays. His impressive performance earned offers from several top-tier college programs. Ultimately, Seldon committed to the University of Michigan.
During his time with the Michigan Wolverines, Seldon faced the challenges of transitioning from high school to college football. Despite the increased level of competition, he showcased his skills and determination in practices and games. Although his playing time was limited initially, his perseverance and work ethic was noticed by his coaches and teammates. After his time at the University of Michigan, he played two years with New Mexico State, before moving on to Utah State.
