Popular Actor Randomly Attacked In New York City

Suspect Arrested Update:

A little bit more than a week ago, actor Steve Buscemi was punched in the face by an attacker in New YorK City. On Friday, police have arrested a suspect in connection with this violent attack.

Police sources told CBS “50-year-old Clifton Williams, who police were looking for since at least Monday, walked into the 10th Precinct in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood to make a report for stolen property Friday afternoon.” The officers who made the report, arrested Williams when he provided his ID.

Williams may be charged with two counts of assault. One is a misdemeanor, but the attack on Buscemi may be considered a felony because the actor is 66 years old, and this classifies him as a senior citizen.

Williams first randomly attacked a 22-year-old man 10 minutes before he attacked Buscemi.

Steve Buscemi has had a successful acting career for the past four decades. According to IMDB, he is best known for his work in films such as “Fargo,” “Reservoir Dogs,” “Ghost World” and “The Death of Stalin,” as well as the characters he has portrayed on TV shows such as “Boardwalk Empire,” and “Miracle Workers.” Unfortunately, Buscemi had to go to the hospital last week.

The New York Post reports that Buscemi was walking through Kips Bay in New York City at 11:48am on Wednesday May 8, 2024, when he was attacked out of nowhere. It was the middle of the day when a man walked up to the actor and punched him in the face. He was not provoked. It seemed to be a random attack.

Unfortunately, police did not catch the attacker, who took off quickly. According to law enforcement, this was only one of the latest unprovoked attack to occur in the five boroughs that make up New York City.

Buscemi’s face and left eye were swollen as a result of the attack. He received treatment for his injuries at Bellevue Hospital.

Buscemi’s publicist released the following statement about the attack. “Steve Buscemi was assaulted in Mid-Town Manhattan, another victim of a random act of violence in the city. He is OK and appreciates everyone’s well wishes, though incredibly sad for everyone that this has happened to him while also walking the streets of New York.”

A worker who was in the area and witnessed the attack explained, “I saw he was with a woman, and then through the corner of the window I saw him trip and fall backwards. The witness added, “He right away got up and ran in the opposite direction. I didn’t see who hit him. It worries me for when we close because we close at 11 and it can get scary around that time.”

One of Buscemi’s most famous roles is as Enoch ‘Nucky’ Thompson in the HBO series “Boardwalk Empire.” He is the second actor from that show to be attacked recently. On March 31, 2024, actor Michael Stuhbarg, who portrayed Arnold Rothstein on the series, was hit in the back of the neck with a rock when he was out running on the Upper East Side. In this case, police caught the attacker. Stuhbarg chased him straight into the hands of the police.
