Tom Hanks Gives Updates After He And Rita Wilson Were Released from the Hospital

With the coronavirus outbreak spreading rapidly throughout hundreds of countries, we’ve since learned that no one is immune to the dreaded virus—not even celebrities.

Among the first Hollywood stars to test positive for the disease were Tom Hanks and his wife, Rita Wilson. The two were diagnosed while abroad in Australia and were instructed to remain in self-isolation there until they were better.

When he was diagnosed, Hanks released a statement explaining the symptoms he and Rita felt. He said they were “a bit tired, like we had colds and some body aches.”

“Rita had some chills that came and went,” he added. “Slight fevers too.”

At the end of the statement, Hanks promised to “keep the world posted and updated.” And that he did. After a few days, Hanks posted a message to his Twitter account offering thanks to everyone taking care of him and his wife, explaining that they were taking it “one day at a time.”

He also reminded us—with some lighthearted humor—that, “despite all the current events, there is no crying in baseball,” quoting himself from a famous scene in the 1992 hit A League of Their Own.

Now, several days later, comes another update from the two. In true Tom Hanks manner, he, again, kept it lighthearted.

Hanks posted to Instagram explaining that their symptoms are pretty much the same as they were experiencing a few days prior, except for the fever, which has since made its way out. Progress!

They’re still under the weather, however. “No fever but the blahs,” Hanks wrote in the update. “Folding the laundry and doing the dishes leads to a nap on the couch.”

And so, they in isolation they remain. But don’t worry, they’re doing okay there—mostly Rita. “My wife has won 6 straight hands of Gin Rummy and leads by 201 points,” Hanks wrote. We can almost hear the giggles.

Additionally, he has “learned not to spread [his] Vegemite so thick,” referring to the recent uproar that occurred over the excessive amount of vegemite he put on his toast. He didn’t know, okay?

The new post included a picture of a typewriter, which he explained later down: “I traveled here with a typewriter, one I used to love,” he wrote. When you take a second glance at the photo, it’s obvious what he means: The brand is L. C. Smith & Corona Typewriters Inc., and has “CORONA” in capital letters right in front.

“We are all in this together. Flatten the curve. Hanx,” he ended the post.
