The movie “Toy Story” was so successful that The Walt Disney Company made three sequels for a total of four “Toy Story” movies to date. In all of those movies, actor Tim Allen was the voice of one of the main characters, Buzz Lightyear.

Then, in 2022, Disney released a movie with a character named Buzz Lightyear, but Tim Allen was not involved in the film at all. Chris Evans was the voice of Buzz Lightyear in the film “Lightyear” which was supposed to be about the real person who inspired the toy in the “Toy Story” movies.

“Lightyear” was a flop at the box office. Was it because fans have gotten used to new Disney films being released on Disney+? Was it because of the the same-sex kiss towards the beginning of the movie? Was it that the film just wasn’t any good? There’s no one exact answer, but regardless, a Buzz Lightyear character minus the voice of Allen did not go over well with fans.

Allen didn’t even understand exactly why he wasn’t asked to be part of the film, but he did remember talking to Disney about a potential “live action” story about Buzz Lightyear several years ago.

Whatever the reason Allen wasn’t part of “Lightyear,” Allen and his fans can rejoice as there is good news. Allen announced on Twitter that there is another “Toy Story” movie in the works, “Toy Story 5,” and this time, Allen will once again be voicing the toy Buzz Lightyear.

In his tweet, Allen spoke directly to Tom Hanks, the voice of Woody in the franchise. He wrote, “See ya soon Woody, you are a sad strange little man and you have my pity.” Then he announced the upcoming film before quoting his famous line, “To infinity and beyond!”

Many fans and former costars have responded to Allen’s tweet, glad to hear that he will once again be the voice of Buzz Lightyear. For example, Jet Jurgensmeyer, who acted with Allen on the sitcom “Last Man Standing,” tweeted a simple but powerful, “You made my day.”

Are you excited about “Toy Story 5”? Does it surprise you that Disney is bringing Allen back to be the voice of Buzz Lightyear?
