After A Teacher Graded A Student’s Test, Everyone in Town Demanded She Be Fired

Parents want the best for their children. That includes wanting the best for them at school. They want their children to be treated with respect by other students and especially by their teachers.

One 2nd grader named Kamdyn Piland had a negative experience at school that infuriated his dad, and caused the community to call for one particular teacher to be fired.

It all started when Kamdyn came home from school after taking a math quiz earlier that day. He didn’t do well on the math quiz, mainly because he didn’t answer most of the questions; however, that’s not what his father was upset about. He was upset about the teacher’s reaction to how Kamdyn did on the quiz.

The 2nd grade teacher, Alyssa Rupp Bohenek, wrote at the top of the quiz, “Absolutely pathetic. He answered 13 in 3 minutes.” Then she wrote “sad” along with a picture of a sad face.

There were a total of 50 questions on the quiz, so answering only 13 of them was hardly exceptional work. Still, Kamdyn’s father, Christopher Piland, felt much more than just sad about the result. He was furious that Bohenek called his son’s work “absolutely pathetic.”

Christopher told FOX 56, “You don’t write that on anybody’s paper, let alone a little 7-year-old, second grader’s paper.”

Christopher wasn’t the only one who was upset about the words on the test. Kamdyn was very hurt as well. Kamdyn said, “It broke my heart.”

After seeing what Kamdyn’s teacher wrote, Christopher confronted her about it. Via email, he told her, “I believe what you wrote on his paper was extremely unprofessional and just very rude.”

Bohenek responded by writing that she’s sorry Christopher and Kamdyn feel that way, but Christopher didn’t think that was a satisfactory response. That’s when he took the issue to social media.

Christopher’s Facebook post about his son’s math quiz ended up going viral. In response, one person created a Change.org petition to try to get Bohenek fired. The petition explains, “Alyssa Rupp Bohenek is a teacher for the Valley View school district that thinks it’s ok to bully and talk down to her students, and needs to be removed.Fire Alyssa Rupp Bohenek.” The petition currently has over 21,000 signatures.

In response to that petition, another petition was created in support of Bohenek. This petition states, “What she wrote on the  students paper may have been wrong to do, It is something she should  reprimanded for but  certainly not fired over.” This petition only has about 1000 signatures.

Do you think Kamdyn’s teacher should be fired for what she wrote on his test, or do you think that’s going too far? How would you react if a teacher wrote something similar on your child’s test?
