Bethany Hamilton’s 3-year-old nephew, Andrew Samuel Hamilton, has tragically passed away following a drowning accident. Andrew was found unconscious in a bathtub at his home on October 11 and was airlifted to a hospital in Oahu the next morning. Andrew’s father posted the devastating news to Instagram.

He wrote:

“Andrew Samuel Hamilton, born December 26th 2020, entered his heavenly rest on Friday, October 17, 2024, succumbing to injuries sustained a week prior in a drowning accident, after all of the best life-saving interventions had been exhausted.Andrew’s passing is mourned by me, his father, his mother Kyah, and all of our children, Thomas, Joshua, Matthew, Noelle, and John, as well as by his grandparents, his aunts, uncles, and cousins, and by his family in Christ, the congregation of Saint Matthew’s Lutheran Church, together with her pastor William Pierce, whose steadfast prayers at Andrew’s bedside and preaching of God’s Words to our broken hearts has sustained our souls this past week.It hurts terribly and we miss Andrew more than words can express. But we do not mourn as those who have no hope.”

“We rejoice in the certain hope of the glory of God, into whose name Andrew was baptized, whose precious blood washed Andrew clean and made him a child and heir of heaven.“For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known.” 1 Corinthians 13:12Andrew sees Jesus as He is, face to face. He knows Jesus fully, even as he was fully known and loved by Jesus his whole life.Glory be to God for all things.”

Bethany had shared the heartbreaking news on social media, describing Andrew as “sweet” and “precious.” At the time, she said he still had “a heartbeat” and was showing signs of fight. Sadly, Andrew passed away on October 17.

In an update, Bethany shared that her Instagram post led her to connect with Dr. Paul Harch, a Louisiana-based expert in hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT). According to the Mayo Clinic, HBOT involves breathing pure oxygen in a pressurized environment and is commonly used to treat decompression sickness, a condition associated with scuba diving.
