Jacoby Rashi’d Jones, born on July 11, 1984, in New Orleans, Louisiana, is a retired American football wide receiver and return specialist. He is best known for his powerful plays and contributions in the NFL. Jones’ journey from a college standout to a Super Bowl hero is a testament to his determination, athletic prowess, and knack for delivering in key moments.
Jones attended Marion Abramson High School in New Orleans, where he showcased his athletic talents in football and track. Despite his skills, he didn’t receive major college offers. He decided to go to Lane College, a small historically black college in Tennessee. At Lane, Jones excelled on the football field, earning All-Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) honors. He managed to catch the attention of NFL scouts.
In 2012, Jones signed with the Baltimore Ravens, a move that would define his career. That season, he made significant contributions both as a receiver and as a returner. Jones’ most memorable performance came in the playoffs, where his plays scribed his name to NFL history.
During the AFC Divisional Round against the Denver Broncos, Jones made one of the greatest plays in NFL playoff history. With less than a minute remaining and the Ravens trailing by seven points, Jones caught a 70-yard touchdown pass from Joe Flacco, famously known as the “Mile High Miracle.” This play put the game into overtime, where the Ravens eventually won, moving them toward their Super Bowl XLVII victory.
Jones’ amazing performance continued in Super Bowl XLVII against the San Francisco 49ers. He caught a 56-yard touchdown pass and returned the second-half kickoff 108 yards for another touchdown, setting a Super Bowl record. His contributions supported the Ravens’ 34-31 victory. After his time with the Ravens, Jones had some brief time with both the San Diego Chargers and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
