Popular Brazilian beauty influencer Jhei Soares, 28, tragically died in a flash flood on Sunday, Nov. 24, in Minas Gerais, Brazil.
According to CNN Brazil per PEOPLE, Jhei, whose real name was Jenniffer Soares Martins, was caught in the flood alongside her husband, Wallison Lima. A video shared by The New York Post shows the couple leaning on each other next to their car as rescuers tried to reach them with a ladder.
According to PEOPLE, the State Civil Defense Coordination, reported that the couple left their car during the storm and attempted to use its body for shelter. Rescuers appeared to advise them on how to escape, but their efforts were unsuccessful.
Despite the flooding that claimed Martins’ life, the government maintains that conditions in Uberlândia are under control and that rainfall in the region is being closely monitored.
Martins was later found deceased, while her husband miraculously survived, according to officials.

Lima and Martins had been married for eight years and together for over 14. They often shared posts about their travels and family celebrations. Martins, who had over 82,000 Instagram followers, frequently shared videos of her outfits, shopping hauls, and life in Brazil. Her comments are now filled with messages mourning her sudden and tragic death.
