On Saturday April 1, 2023, Marlon Wayans, the youngest sibling in the iconic Wayans family, was scheduled to perform two stand up comedy shows at Flappers comedy club in Burbank, California. The first show went as planned, but before the next show started, Marlon received some very difficult news. His father, Howell Wayans, had died at the age of 86.

The second show started later than originally scheduled, but Marlon still went on with the show. He announced the sad news of his father’s death to the audience at the end of the show, about three hours after he learned the news himself. The crowd gave him a standing ovation.

After the show, Marlon turned to Instagram to announce the sad news to the world, but he did not mention a cause of death. He posted a picture of himself with his dad, his dad kissing him on the forehead. In the caption, he explained what being “a man” meant to his dad. He wrote, “My Dad said ‘A man takes care of himself and his responsibilities. His family is always FIRST.’ From that day on I wanted to be a MAN.”

Marlon wrote, “Thank you Pop for being an example of a Man to all your boys.” He ended the post by adding, “Rest well. Kiss Ma for me. Tell her her babies miss her. I got two angels. I feel y’all lifting me already. If there’s a heaven i know you sitting in VIP sippin’ the best wine jesus can make…”

The same night, Marlon added another post. This time it was of his father sitting at a table with a glass of wine. He wrote, “My man 50 grand. Every time I sip a good wine I’ll think of you.”

Howell and his wife, Elvira, who died in 2020, had 10 children. Most of them have found career success in the entertainment industry. His children are Keenan Ivory, Damon, Shawn, Dwayne, Kim, Nadia, Elvira, Diedra, Vonnie and Marlon.

Diedra also shared a tribute to her late father on Instagram. She shared a picture of her parents and wrote, “My Heart is Heavy. I thank God for allowing Us to have so many years of love, memories and great parents. The kind that never gave up on their kids.”

Rest in peace.
