Sad “Love Is Blind” Star News

In 2021, Nick Thompson starred on the Netflix show “Love Is Blind” where he married Danielle Ruhl. The relationship ultimately didn’t last, and now Thompson claims that the show “ruined his life.”

In an Interview with The Daily Mail, Thompson revealed that he was only paid a total of $10,000 for his part on the reality show. After breaking down how much he was paid by how many hours he spent working on the show, he claims he only made $7.14 per hour, which is far less than minimum wage. In addition, there aren’t any residuals.

“Love Is Blind” has been a huge hit for Netflix, but despite his appearance on the show, Thompson claims he’s “going to be homeless.” He explained, “When you think about the amount of money that’s being made, and the way that it’s the path for future seasons, and the fact that anyone can go on and watch me… and I’m going to be homeless.”

Why is Thompson on the verge of homelessness? He lost his job in November and has yet to find a new one. In order to pay the bills in the meantime, he spent his savings and 401(k). He explained, “I’ve got two months left in the bank to pay my mortgage.”

Thompson believes that the reason he’s “having an incredibly hard time” landing a new job is “because people don’t take me seriously.” He added, “I was a VP in software for five years, so it’s not like I don’t have track record of experience or success.”

In addition to “Love Is Blind” not paying very well and potentially hurting his chances at finding employment, he also claims that the show treated him “like a prisoner.” He explained, “You’re miked up from the moment you get there in the morning, and you’re miked up all the way until you leave. Then when you go home at the end of the day, you’re locked in your hotel room without a key without your wallet without money without identification.” He added, “You literally are held captive like a prisoner and there is absolutely no reason that you shouldn’t be considered an employee when you’re technically under the control of your employer for 24 hours a day.”

Despite the drawbacks, Thompson is unsure if he regrets the experience on the show or not. He explained, “When I think about everything that’s happened and I think about my relationship, it’s hard to say I wish I never did it.” He simply wishes his life were different now. He said, “I wish I could just go back to having a nice life that I had built for myself, instead of wondering whether my mortgage is gonna get paid. It’s a brutal, brutal, brutal industry.”

Does it surprise you that Thompson is facing homelessness after staring on a reality TV show? Do you think reality TV stars should be paid residuals by streaming services?
