Back in 1999, Paul Cattermole auditioned for and earned a spot in the U.K. pop band S Club 7 along with bandmates Tina Barrett, Jon Lee, Bradley McIntosh, Jo O’Meara, Hannah Spearritt and Rachel Stevens. The band’s very first single, “Bring It All Back” became a number 1 hit in the U.K. They had a total of 4 studio albums plus a greatest hits project; however, their song “Never Had a Dream Come True” was their only top 10 single in the United States.
Earlier in the year, S Club 7 announced a reunion and a European tour. Just one day ago, the band posted a throwback picture writing “Heading into the long weekend.”

Just one day later, the band posted something completely different, the sad news that one of the band members has died. The band announced Cattermole’s death by writing, “We are truly devastated by the passing of our brother Paul. There are no words to describe the deep sadness and loss we all feel. We were so lucky to have had him in our lives and are thankful for the amazing memories we have. He will be so deeply missed by each and every one of us. We ask that you respect the privacy of his family and of the band at this time.” The announcement did not include a cause of death. Cattermole was 46 years old.

According to Sky News, Cattermole was at his home in Dorset at the time of his unexpected death. In a statement, the band explained, “Paul was found yesterday, 6th April 2023 at his home in Dorset and was pronounced dead later that afternoon. While the cause of death is currently unknown, Dorset Police has confirmed that there were no suspicious circumstances.”
Simon Fuller, the former manager of S Club 7, paid tribute to Cattermole, calling him “a beacon of light for a generation of pop music fans.”
