Back in the 1990s, an instrumental electronic jam band named Lotus was formed. Chuck Morris was the drummer.

On March 16, 2023, Chuck, and his son, Charley Morris, decided to go on a kayaking trip together. They never returned. A GoFundMe was created to help the family, Chuck’s wife Jenny, and their daughter, Amelia.

In an update on the GoFundMe on March 21, the family shared, “After an exhaustive search led by the Benton County Sheriff’s Office and Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, the family and the commanders leading the search and recovery activities are in agreement as to the fate and probable location of Chuck and Charley. The weather and other elements created a perfect storm on the lake, and in the lake, that was unsurvivable.”

At this point, the search for Chuck and Charley transformed to a recovery effort. On April 9th, Chuck’s body was found. In an update on GoFundMe, the family shared, “We have concluded the cause of his death was drowning.” Charley’s body was recovered the next day.

On Instagram, Lotus also shared the sad news of Chuck and Charley’s fate. The band thanked fans “for the outpour of support from around the world – we feel it and love you just as much!” They also added that they will be holding benefit concerts in Denver, Harrisburg, and New York.

In an update on GoFundMe, Jenny wrote about her son, “My beautiful boy will be forever missed. His light, beauty, wit and intellect will reside in my heart forever.”

Jenny and Chuck’s daughter Amelia also shared, “Charley is my brother and will always be. I feel his presence overlooking me and laughing at my foolish mistakes. Our memories will forever be cherished in my heart.”

Rest in peace.
