How These Adorable Pups Ended Up With Their Own Page in Parkland School’s Yearbook

We all know that yearbook photos can be awkward—we have to make sure our hair doesn’t look a mess, that our shirt isn’t stained, or that we’re not accidentally talking while the photo is being taken. But let’s face it: no matter what we do, yearbook photos always still wind up looking strange!

There’s only one time a yearbook photo isn’t awkward: When it captures puppies and not humans. And if you open up the current yearbook for Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, you’ll find a slew of adorable dog photos.

While the photos will make you “awww” out loud, the reason why the dogs are in there is more bittersweet than anything. The 14 dogs featured in the yearbook make up the therapy and service dogs that helped the students cope after the horrific mass shooting they endured in February of last year.

The shooting involved 17 people on campus being fatally shot after a gunman made his way to the school. These therapy dogs were brought to the school to help teens get through the trauma they experienced.

The first therapy dog that made its way to the school was a Bernese mountain mix named River. Since then, the school has brought on over a dozen more therapy dogs, which are trained to provide affection, comfort and love to people who need it most.

The dogs all dressed for picture day—some are even wearing bow ties. During the picture, the pups were instructed to place their paws on an image of human footprints so that they’re all in perfect positioning. And they couldn’t look more adorable or proud.

We could cry looking at these dogs’ sweet faces! How awesome was it for this school to put these dogs’ pictures in the yearbook? Which one is your favorite?
