Popular Band Cancels Tour Dates Due To Cancer Diagnosis

The band Widespread Panic announced they were canceling concerts because lead guitarist Jimmy Herring has Stage 1 tonsil cancer. They have canceled their shows for July 25-27 in Asheville, North Carolina, and are expected to have to make more scheduling adjustments.

Widespread Panic took to Instagram to say that Jimmy Herring is going to start treatment for cancer, and expect him to make a full recovery. They also added some additional information.

“He will begin treatment immediately and is expected to make a full recovery. That part we’re happy to report. They will have a clearer picture of our future concert schedule in the next few days.”

While this is occurring, Widespread Panic has gratitude for all who have “concern and Blessings as Jimmy and his Family go through this healing process,Let the Healing begin.”

Jimmy Herring, age 62, is an American guitarist. Born on January 22, 1962, in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Herring has been an important figure in various influential bands, including the Allman Brothers Band, Widespread Panic, Aquarium Rescue Unit, and the Dead, a band consisting of former members of the Grateful Dead.

In 1997, Herring joined the Allman Brothers Band, stepping into the role of lead guitarist alongside Warren Haynes. His time with the band further helped his career. Herring’s work with the Allman Brothers Band is often regarded as some of his finest.

Herring also played with the jazz-fusion band Project Z and collaborated with Phil Lesh and Friends, further expanding his horizons. In 2006, he joined the renowned jam band Widespread Panic as their lead guitarist, where he has remained a key member ever since.
