‘Pokemon’ Star Has Passed Away At 46

Rachael Lillis, a voice actor for many popular characters, passed away. She was the voice actor behind many Pokemon characters such as Misty, Jessie, and others. She was 46.

The actress died on August 10 after being diagnosed with breast cancer in May of 2024 Rachael’s Pokemon co-star, Veronica Taylor shared the sad news on X.

“It is with a very heavy heart that I share the news of the passing of Rachael Lillis on Saturday evening, 10 August 2024,” Taylor wrote. “Rachael was an extraordinary talent, a bright light that shone through her voice whether speaking or singing.”

“She will be forever remembered for the many animated roles she played, with her iconic performances as ‘Pokemon‘s’ Misty and Jessie being the most beloved,” Taylor said. “Rachael was so thankful for all the generous love and support that was given to her as she battled cancer. It truly made a positive difference. Her family also wishes to thank you as they take this time to grieve privately. A memorial is being planned for a future date.”

Rachael Lillis was a renowned American actress and voice actress. A lot of her work was centered around the anime and animation industry. Born on July 8, 1978, in Niagara Falls, New York, Lillis developed a passion for performing arts at a young age. She pursued her education in theater.

Lillis was most known for her iconic roles in the popular Pokémon series. She provided the voices for Misty, one of the original main characters, and Jessie of Team Rocket, two of the most memorable characters in the series. Her portrayal of Misty, with her fiery personality and deep bond with her Pokémon, captured the hearts of fans worldwide. As Jessie, Lillis brought a unique blend of comedy and danger to the character.

In addition to her work on Pokémon, Lillis has done voice work on a wide range of anime series. She voiced the character of Mai Valentine in the English adaptation of “Yu-Gi-Oh!” and Tony Tony Chopper in “One Piece,” showcasing her versatility in bringing different characters to life. Her performance as Chopper, a talking reindeer with a heartwarming backstory, added dimension to the beloved character.

Lillis’s talent went beyond anime, as she had also worked on different animated series and video games. She voiced the character of Omochao in “Sonic X” and contributed to other projects such as “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,” “The Winx Club,” and “Viva Piñata.”

Back In May Lillis’s sister, Laurie Orr, organized a GoFundMe for Rachael to help cover medical needs. So far, over $98,000 has been raised of the $100,000 goal.
