Little Girl Rescued After She Drifts Out to Sea On An Inflatable Unicorn

The beach is usually a fun place for families to visit. Even in 2020, with precautions, a beach that isn’t very crowded, where social distancing is easy, can be a fun place to enjoy family time.

There are many fun things for kids to do at the coastline. They can play in the sand. They can splash in the water. Apparently, they can also ride huge unicorn floats.

A young girl of about 4 or 5 years old was riding a large unicorn float in the Gulf of Corinth off the coast of the town of Antirio in Greece. Her parents were on the shore, and at one point, they looked over and panicked when they discovered that they could no longer see their daughter. They assumed that her float must have drifted too far away.

The Gulf was experiencing strong currents at the time, and the girl’s float had in fact drifted half a mile away. Thankfully, this story has a happy ending.

The parents immediately told port officials what had happened, they they in turn contacted the captain of a ferry boat named Salaminomachos. Captain Grigoris Karnesisn told the Greek City Times, “I was approaching the port of Antirio and I was notified by the Port Authority that a child, who I did not expect to be so small, had been swept away by the currents on a nearby beach, which is near the port pier.”

You can watch the crew’s heroic rescue in the video below.

Karnesisn said the little girl was “frozen from her fear, because the current was very strong.” The crew told the little girl jokes and made silly faces to try to keep her calm until they docked and she was reunited with her parents.

Karnesisn said that in order to safely rescue the little girl, “I put the ship in such a position so as not to affect the small buoy, I placed it in such a way that the ship was not affected by ripples, because if the buoy sank we would have serious problems. We approached it slowly and we were able to rescue the child.”

We are so glad the little girl was rescued and was reunited with her parents. Captain Karnesisn truly is a hero.
