Mary-Kate and Ashely Olsen became famous at a very young age when they shared the role of Michelle Tanner on the sitcom “Full House.” The end of that show was hardly the end of their acting career. They went on to act in multiple movies where they were the stars.

The twin sisters have since left the Hollywood scene in favor of a career in fashion, but interviews from the past still haunt them, including an old interview on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” that is completely cringeworthy.

A clip from the 2004 interview has recently resurfaced on TikTok, and it has left many viewers wondering why Oprah thought this was okay. Allow us to set the scene.

Back in 2004, it was rumored that Mary-Kate had an eating disorder. The sisters, who were 17 at the time, went on Oprah’s show probably knowing that they would be asked about the rumors, and indeed, Oprah did bring up the topic. She said, “I know a new rumor recently surfaced has really upset you, right?” To clarify, she added, “You know, the one about eating.”

Ashley jumped in to address the question, seeming to protect her sister. She said, “Yeah, you know people are gonna write what they’re gonna write. We try not to read the good or the bad because it just comes with the territory. Either you’re too fat, too skinny and people are just gonna write what they–”

Then, the interview got really cringeworthy. Oprah interrupted Ashley to ask a question that nobody today feels was an appropriate question to ask. And then, she proceeded to make fun of the twins’ answer which led the audience to erupt in laughter.

In case you didn’t catch that, Oprah interrupted Ashely to ask, “What size are you, by the way?”

Ashley seemed surprised at the question and repeated back, “Size?”

Then the twins talked over each other explaining that they don’t know what size they are and saying they are “petite.”

Oprah interrupted their answer acting like she didn’t believe them. She said, “That is so interesting, I’m obsessed with size and you’re like, ‘I really don’t know.’”

Mary-Kate responded, “If we were obsessed with our size it’d be, I don’t know, a different story.”

TikTok users are appalled at this Oprah interview. One person commented, “No wonder they don’t make any appearances anymore :( I bet their childhood was rough.”

Another person pointed out how Ashley jumped in to defend her sister. Her comment reads, “She really tried to protect her sister from those questions.”

One TikTok user added, “the way she turned such a serious and sensitive subject into a joke, KNOWING that there was a possibility it affects them is extremely disappointing:(.”
