Musician Jeremiah Green Dead at 45

Jeremiah Green, Modest Mouse drummer, dies at 45 after cancer battle only four days after announcing his cancer diagnosis. An announcement was posted yesterday (December 31) by his band Modest Mouse on Social Media.

“I don’t know a way to ease into this: Today we lost our dear friend Jeremiah,” his band said in a Facebook post.. “He laid down to rest and simply faded out. I’d like to say a bunch of pretty words right now, but it just isn’t the time. These will come later, and from many people.”

“Please appreciate all the love you give, get, have given, and will get,” . “Above all, Jeremiah was about love.”

According to a Facebook post by Carole Namatame (his mother) the drummer passed away “peacefully in his sleep” after undergoing a “courageous battle to cancer,”

“Jeremiah was a light to so many,” Namatame said. “At this time the family is requesting privacy. More information will be forthcoming including a Celebration of Life for friends and fans in the coming months.”

A few days ago, Green’s bandmate Isaac Brock posted on instagram that Green had been diagnosed with cancer a “short while ago” and he is in treatment. “It seems to be going smoothly and making a positive difference. Jeremiah, as am I, are believers in the power of positive energy, so if you would be so kind as to send “good vibes”( to quote Jeremiah) in the direction of Jeremiah and his family, that’d be great.”

Sometime in December, Green had to pull out of the band’s recently completed tour celebrating their 25th anniversary of their 1997 album, The Lonesome Crowded West, due to chemotherapy treatments. Their most recent studio set was in 2021 The Golden Casket.

Green helped start the popular band back in Seattle in 1992. He was the drummer and played on all of the band’s albums, but not on Good News for People Who Love Bad News (2004). The drummer took a break from the band in 2003 and 2004.

Modest Mouse is an alternative style band. One of their first hits was Float On in 2004. Other notable songs include: Ocean breathes Salty and Lampshades on Fire. They have made several other good songs over the years.
