MTV Reality Star Dead At 20 Years Old

Sean Garinger gained fame for appearing on the MTV reality show “16 and Pregnant.” He was on Season 6 of the show alongside his ex-girlfriend Selena Gutierrez. The former couple had two children together.

Tragically, Garginer, who was just 20 years old, died on February 28, 2024, in a freak accident. His mom, Mary Hobbs, told The U.S. Sun that her son was helping her when the ground gave way and led to his death. He was at his home in Boone, North Carolina at the time of his death.

Before the accident happened, Hobbs and Garinger were at a local car dealership where they were looking for a car for Garinger. The goal was for him to have a car he could use to drive to Colorado, where Gutierrez lives, so he could visit his children.

When they got home, the tragedy occurred. Hobbs explained, “I was with him when it happened. He was just moving [the ATV] from one parking spot to the next for me, so I could back in to park.” She continued, “He pulled [in] front of me to park the ATV and the ground gave way from all the rain and mud.”

According to Hobbs, when “the ground gave way,” the ATV flipped over and “crushed” Garinger’s skull. Before she realized her son was dead, she tried to get help. She explained, “I ran to neighbors trying to get someone to help me get the ATV off of him. No one answered. I ran back to him.” She continued, “By that time, I realized he wasn’t alive anymore.”

Once she realized her son didn’t survive, she stayed by his side. She said, “I just laid next to him until the ambulance showed up.” She added, “There was a huge part of my heart that died with my son on Wednesday.”

To say that Hobbs misses her son is a vast understatement. She explained, “He was my only son, my rock, my strength when I had none left. We loved spontaneously jumping in the car for a road trip or a beach sesh. We bonded over music, fast cars and shooting guns and taking new adventures.” Hobbs added, “Sean brightened my world in a way no one else could ever come close to. He was my baby boy, my squishy, my heartbeat.”

Garinger is survived by his mom and his daughters, Dareli and Esmi. According to a source who spoke to The U.S. Sun, Garinger last saw his daughters one week before his death when he drove to Colorado to see them.
