The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) discreetly issued a recall last month affecting over two million cases of doughnuts and other baked goods sold under multiple brand names, including Dunkin’. According to FDA records, a total of 2,017,614 cases are involved in the recall, encompassing doughnuts, fritters, and cake rings.

These products were distributed and sold across the country. Although the recall was initiated on January 7, the FDA did not release a public statement regarding the matter.

The complete list of recalled products is available here. According to the FDA, the recall applies to any items with an expiration date of December 13, 2024, or earlier. A total of 60 different products are affected.

The recalled baked goods were manufactured by Indiana-based FGF, LLC and are being pulled from the market due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.

FGF Brands voluntarily recalled 60 of its donut products in a firm-initiated action.

The recall was issued on January 7, and on February 5, the FDA classified it as a Class II recall.

Per the agency’s website the recall means this “a situation in which use of or exposure to a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote.”

The affected products were distributed nationwide in both the United States and Canada.

The recall was issued due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, a bacterium that can be life-threatening for young children, the elderly, and individuals with weakened immune systems.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), listeria is the third leading cause of death from foodborne illness in the U.S., responsible for approximately 1,600 infections and 260 deaths annually.

For healthy individuals outside high-risk groups, a listeria infection (listeriosis) typically causes food poisoning symptoms, including fever, muscle aches, fatigue, headaches, diarrhea, and vomiting. These symptoms generally subside within a few days.
