About two weeks ago, Martha Stewart shared some sad news on Instagram. Her beloved cat, Princess Peony, had died. The feline had not died of old age. No, she was attacked and killed.

Besides being the ultimate homemaker and hostess, Stewart is also an animal lover. Back in 2020, she reflected on the numerous animals that she has taken care of over the years. She said, “For the past 40 years or so, I have been the proud and loving owner of dozens of animals. At least 20 cats, 25 dogs, 10 chinchillas, and scores of canaries and parakeets have lived happily in my homes. And two ponies, three donkeys, 10 horses, many sheep and goats, and hundreds of chickens, geese, turkeys, guinea fowl, quail, peacocks and homing pigeons have populated my sheds, barns and stables. Just thinking about this amazing group astonishes me, and I realize how much I’ve learned from caring for them all, and how much joy they’ve given me.”

Besides Princess Peony, Stewart has another cat named Empress Tang. The two cats were sisters. Stewart adopted them back in 2009 when they were only 4 months old.

In addition to the cats, Stewart also has four dogs, two French bulldogs named Creme Brulee and Bete Noire and two Chow Chows named Emperor Han and Empress Qin. It was the dogs that killed Princess Peony.

Stewart shared the tragic news on Instagram writing, “Burying the beautiful and unusual Princess Peony. the four dogs mistook her for an interloper and killed her defenseless little self. i will miss her very badly . RIP beauty.” She also shared a picture of three men digging a small grave.

Although Stewart is mourning the loss of her cat, it seems that she loves her dogs just as much as ever and doesn’t blame them for the incident. On Easter, she shared pictures of her dogs wearing bunny ears.

Although life must go on, some of Stewarts followers aren’t ready to embrace cute pictures of her dogs. One person wrote, “I’m a big fan but no one wants to see those dogs after what they did to your cat.”

How would you react if one of your pets attacked and killed another one of your pets?
