Billy was born with a serious heart defect in 2017. Only three days after his birth, he needed open-heart surgery. Kimmel shared that there were holes on the left and right side of Billy’s heart which was preventing adequate oxygenation to his blood.

Kimmel’s most recent post said that Billy received a new valve. He wrote “This weekend, our boy Billy had his third (of three, we hope) open heart surgery. We went into this experience with a lot of optimism and nearly as much fear and came out with a new valve inside a happy, healthy kid,” Kimmel added his thanks to the medical professionals.

Kimmel continued on with, “Walking around this hospital, meeting parents at their most vulnerable, children in pain and the miracle workers who do everything in their considerable power to save them is a humbling experience,”

Billy’s second surgery occurred at 7 months old. Since his son was born, Kimmel has been an advocate for supporting health care for all and an avid fundraiser for the Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles.

Kimmel and his wife McNearney also have a nine-year-old daughter. He is also father to a 32-year-old daughter and 30-year-old son from his first marriage.
