There’s a new documentary coming to Hulu about the band Bon Jovi. The docuseries, which is called “Thank You Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story” includes interviews from band members including frontman Jon Bon Jovi as well as Richie Sambora, a former guitarist for the band.

Despite the fact that Bon Jovi and Sambora both participated in the documentary, the two former bandmates have not communicated with each other in many years. Bon Jovi recently explained the reason they don’t keep in touch to Ultimate Classic Rock.

UCR asked Bon Jovi if he talked to Sambora about the docuseries, and he answered, “Not a word.”

Then Bon Jovi explained that the documentary’s director, Gotham Chopra, was the one responsible for communicating with the people involved in the project including Sambora. He added, “They interviewed Richie in London. I wasn’t there. I had nothing to do with it.” Bon Jovi hadn’t even seen the completed documentary yet, so he doesn’t even know what his former bandmate had to say.

Back in 2013, Sambora walked away from Bon Jovi with hardly any explanation. Publicly, he just said his departure from the band was due to “personal issues.”

He chose to walk away from the band at a pretty unhelpful time. The band was scheduled to perform in Calgary just hours after he left. He was quickly replaced by Phil X who stepped in for Sambora on the rest of the band’s tour that year and ended up becoming an official member of the band.

Why aren’t Bon Jovi and Sambora on speaking terms? Does Bon Jovi hold a grudge against Sambora for abruptly leaving the band? No, it’s nothing like that.

According to Bon Jovi, “We’re not in contact because he’s not in the organization any longer.” No added, “Doesn’t mean that there’s not love forever, but it’s 11 years ago that he just didn’t show up anymore.”

Then the frontman added a little bit of context to why Sambora may have walked away from the band. He explained, “There were emotional issues that he was dealing with as a single dad, and there were substance abuse issues.”

Does it surprise you that Bon Jovi and Sambora don’t keep in touch? Why do you think Sambora chose to walk away from the band?
