Wayne Osmond, a beloved member of the legendary Utah-based musical group “The Osmonds,” passed away on  January 1 at the age of 73, as confirmed by a family spokesperson per ABC4. 

“His legacy of faith, music, love, and laughter have influenced the lives of many people around the world. He would want everyone to know that the gospel of Jesus Christ is true, that families are forever, and that banana splits are the best dessert. We love him and will miss him dearly,” the statement said.

Wayne Osmond was born on August 28, 1949, in Ogden, Utah, he was the fourth of nine children in the Osmond family. Wayne’s musical journey began in childhood when he, along with his brothers, gained fame performing on “The Andy Williams Show” in the 1960s. Wayne Osmond sang with his brothers Alan, Merrill, Jay, Donny, and Jimmy and they formed the band “The Osmonds.” His versatility and dedication helped solidify The Osmonds as a household name.

Wayne played multiple instruments, including guitar and flute, and contributed significantly to the band’s harmonies and songwriting. The Osmonds achieved worldwide fame in the 1970s, with hits like “One Bad Apple,” “Crazy Horses,” and “Love Me for a Reason.” While they were best known for their pop sound, Wayne was instrumental in the band’s ventures into rock and country music, showcasing their artistic range.

In addition to performing, Wayne co-wrote many of the group’s songs, including fan favorites such as “The Plan,” an ambitious concept album reflecting their faith as members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Despite the demands of touring and recording, Wayne remained deeply committed to his family and faith. Wayne had five children with his wife Kathlyn Louise White according to IMDb. Kathlyn was a former Miss Utah.

In later years, Wayne faced health challenges, including a brain tumor diagnosis in 1997, but his resilience and optimism inspired fans and loved ones. He continued performing occasionally with his brothers, cherishing their enduring legacy and connection with their audience.

Wayne Osmond was the first of the Osmond siblings to pass away. He is survived by his brothers Virl, Tom, Alan, Merrill, Jay, Donny, and Jimmy, as well as his sister Marie.
