Supermodel Gisele Bundchen is grieving the loss of her mother, Vania Nonnenmacher. PEOPLE reports that her death comes after a battle with cancer. She was 75 years old.

Hospital Moinhos de Vento, where Nonnenmacher was at the time of her death, released a statement explaining that she had been admitted to the hospital on Friday January 26, 2024 and died two days later on Sunday while still at the hospital.

Nonnenmacher had a total of six children including Bundchen. All of them are girls. Bundchen’s siblings include her twin sister Patricia and her sisters Rafaela, Graziela, Gabriela and Raquel.

Based on her social media posts, it’s evident that Bundchen loved her mother very much. For example, in 2022 in a post in honor of her mother’s birthday, Bundchen wrote, “I am forever grateful for all that you have done and continue to do for us. Thank you for always loving, inspiring and teaching us. Thank you for giving me life! Love you so much!”

In 2010, in a blog entry after the birth of her first child, Benjamin, she called her mother “my hero.” She added, “My mom devoted her entire life to her family and did it with such grace.” She added, “I can only hope to be for my kids what she will and always be for us … Our rock.”

Bundchen has yet to publicly comment on or post about her mother’s death, but previously, she shared with PEOPLE what it’s like caring for your parents as they get older. She explained, “I feel like whenever it rains, it pours. With all the different twists and turns that life takes, all we can do is the best we can given what happens in our surroundings.” She also described caring for sick parents as “very tough.”
