Update: Tom and Gisele have finally finalized their divorce after spending much of October hammering out a settlement involving property and custody of Tom’s two children with Gisele.

Tom in a statement said: “We arrived at this decision to end our marriage after much consideration. Doing so is, of course painful, and difficult, like it is for so many people who go through the same thing every day around the world. However, we wish only the best for each other as we pursue whatever new chapters in our lives that are yet to be written.”

Gisele made the following statement: “The decision to end a marriage is never easy, but we have grown apart and while it is, of course, difficult to go through something like this, I feel blessed for the time we had together and only wish the best for Tom always.”

There had been a lot of speculation that Tom and Gisele’s marriage was on the rocks.

Super Bowl champion Tom Brady and supermodel Gisele Bündchen got married in 2009. They have two children together, and Brady also has a son from a previous marriage. They seemed to have a great marriage, but now, there’s trouble in paradise.

Earlier in the year, Brady announced that he was going to retire from the NFL. Then he changed his mind and announced that he would once again be playing for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. While the news that he wasn’t retiring after all may have delighted fans, it was not the decision Bündchen hoped he would make.

Bündchen told Elle, “Obviously, I have my concerns—this is a very violent sport, and I have my children and I would like him to be more present. I have definitely had those conversations with him over and over again. But ultimately, I feel that everybody has to make a decision that works for [them]. He needs to follow his joy, too.”

Several months ago, the couple had a huge fight, and they have been living separately ever since. Sources close to the couple assumed the split wouldn’t last, but now, it seems that this really might be the end of their relationship. Multiple sources claim that Brady and Bündchen have both hired divorce lawyers.

One source told Page Six, “I never actually thought this argument would be the end of them, but it looks like it is. I don’t think there will be any coming back now. They both have lawyers and are looking at what a split will entail, who gets what and what the finances will be.”

Sources for Bündchen claim that the desire to divorce is not simply just because Brady decided not to retire from playing football just yet. One source explained, “As with many marriages, it’s not just one thing. Gisele has made it clear that she worried about Tom playing football and that they had had many talks about it. But they have had a series of blowups over the past few years, and this time it looks like there’s no going back.”

In recent weeks, Brady and Bündchen have each been spotted not wearing their wedding rings.
