Crock-Pot Has Recalled More Than 940,000 Multi-Cookers Due to Faulty Lids
We don’t always have all day to let our food cook though, so multi-cookers are also very handy. A Crock-Pot multi-cooker is a pressure cooker, slow cooker and rice cooker in one! That sounds extremely helpful.
Unfortunately, some consumers have found the Crock-Pot 6 qt. Express Crock SCCPPC600-V1 to be dangerous. A total of 119 people have contacted the company to complain about the lid coming off while the food is cooking. Of these complaints, 99 people have suffered injuries ranging from 1st degree to 3rd degree burns.
In response, Crock-Pot has issued a recall for all 942,760 multi-cooker units that may have this issue. These multi-cookers were sold from July 2017 through November 2020 in both the United States and Canada.
It’s unclear if the lid is coming off due to something being wrong with the Express Crocks or if it is consumer error. When Consumer Reports tested this Crock-Pot model, the lid did not detach, but Crock-Pot says that there are several reasons that the lid could come off due to consumer error. For example, the lid may not have been locked correctly, too much water might have been added to the unit or the quick-release valve may have been used incorrectly.
To prevent future injuries from this Express Crock, Crock-Pot has changed the lid’s design. They have also committed to writing clearer use instructions in the user manual as well as on the Crock-Pot itself.
