Sarah Packwood and Brett Clibbery shared a love for sailing, and they died doing what they love.

The couple set out from their home in British Columbia, Canada, with the goal of sailing over 2000 miles to the a collection of islands off the coast of Portugal which are known as the Azores. The trip was supposed to take 21 days. Unfortunately, they never made it.

In a news release on July 12, 2024, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police shared that a 10-foot inflatable boat washed ashore at Sable Island National Park Reserve. The boat contained the remains of two people who are believed to be Packwood and Clibbery.

One day later, Clibbery’s son, James Clibbery, announced the sad news of his father and step-mother’s death in a post on Facebook. He wrote, “The past few days have been very hard. My father James Brett Clibbery , and his wife, Sarah Justine Packwood have regrettably passed away. There is still an investigation, as well as a DNA test to confirm, but with all the news, it is hard to remain hopeful.”

James added, “They were amazing people, and there isn’t anything that will fill the hole that has been left by their, so far unexplained passing. Living will not be the same without your wisdom, and your wife was quickly becoming a beacon of knowledge, and kindness. I miss your smiles. I miss your voices. You will be forever missed.”

According to PEOPLE, Clibbery and Packwood documented their travels and adventures together on their YouTube channel called Theros Adventures. Their most recent video was just 1 month ago.
