Country Music Band Cancels Shows As Band Member Faces Cancer Diagnosis

The country music band The Mavericks have had to cancel some of their shows due to sad news.

A few days ago, Raul Malo, lead singer and bass guitarist, announced he has cancer. The lead singer took to Instagram with a video update. He said his cancer was discovered because the band members went on a wellness kick and were getting themselves checked out by a doctor. This is what led to the diagnosis of two cancerous areas found in his GI tract.

Malo is starting chemotherapy after the 4th of July. He said the form of chemo he is prescribed is “is the least intrusive of all of them.” He added that many patients are able to continue to work throughout this type of treatment. However, he cautioned his fans that all will be dependent on how he responds to his treatment. Thus, there is a possibility of more future canceled shows. This is why he wanted to let fans know about his illness. Also, he is sending a reminder to his listeners to be proactive with their health matters.
