Fleetwood Mac Singer-Songwriter Dies At 79

Singer and songwriter Christine McVie is best known for her part in the band Fleetwood Mac. McVie, who originally went by her maiden name, Christine Perfect, wrote two of the band‘s early hits, “Say You Love Me” and “Over My Head.” Other hit songs she wrote for the band include “Think About Me,” “Hold Me,” and “Little Lies.”

McVie’s family announced the sad news earlier today that she has died at the age of 79. Her family’s statement reads, “On behalf of Christine McVie’s family, it is with a heavy heart we are informing you of Christine’s death. She passed away peacefully at hospital this morning, Wednesday, November 30th 2022, following a short illness. She was in the company of her family. We kindly ask that you respect the family’s privacy at this extremely painful time, and we would like everyone to keep Christine in their hearts and remember the life of an incredible human being, and revered musician who was loved universally. RIP Christine McVie.”

This statement was posted on McVie’s Instagram account.

In addition, Fleetwood Mac also released a statement on Instagram writing, “There are no words to describe our sadness at the passing of Christine McVie. She was truly one-of-a-kind, special and talented beyond measure. She was the best musician anyone could have in their band and the best friend anyone could have in their life. We were so lucky to have a life with her. Individually and together, we cherished Christine deeply and are thankful for the amazing memories we have. She will be so very missed.”

The band Fleetwood Mac originally formed in 1967, and McVie joined the band in 1970. She remained a key member of the band until 1998 when she announced that she was going to be leaving the band, in part, because she no longer liked traveling by airplane. She rejoined the band in 2014.

McVie also had a solo career for awhile. Two of her solo hits include “SongBird” and “Got a Hold on Me.” You can watch her perform these songs in the videos below.

Her family did not include a cause of death. RIP
