Child Actor Star From Popular 80’s Sitcom Arrested Again
Zachery Ty Bryan, best known for his role on Home Improvement, was reportedly arrested on New Year’s Day after allegedly assaulting a woman, according to TMZ.
The unidentified woman, who is said to share a child with Bryan, 43, told police that he punched her on the left side of her face and placed her in a chokehold, leaving her in fear for her life.
Police noted that her injuries were consistent with her account, per the report.
Zachery Ty Bryan, who shares children with both his ex-wife, Carly Matros, and his fiancée, Johnnie Faye Cartwright, was arrested on Wednesday evening in Myrtle Beach, S.C., for second-degree domestic violence.
It remains unclear if either woman was involved in the incident.
According to a representative from the Myrtle Beach Police per Page Six, Bryan was transferred to the J. Reuben Long Detention Center on Thursday after failing to post his $10,000 bail.
In his mugshot, the former child star appears disheveled, with a red mark on his forehead and several visible cuts on his face.
No court date has been announced.
Zachery Ty Bryan was born and raised in Aurora, Colorado. He attended La Salle High School and later moved to California to pursue an acting career.
He rose to fame as Brad Taylor, the eldest son on the hit ABC sitcom Home Improvement (1991–1999). His portrayal of the mischievous yet endearing Brad made him a household name during the show’s eight-season run.
After Home Improvement, Bryan appeared in guest roles on various television shows, including Veronica Mars, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Smallville. He also ventured into films, with credits in The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift (2006) and independent projects.
In recent years, Bryan has transitioned into producing, with a focus on low-budget films and TV projects.
Bryan married Carly Matros, his high school sweetheart, in 2007. The couple shares four children but divorced in 2020.
Following his divorce, Bryan announced his engagement to Johnnie Faye Cartwright, with whom he shares additional children.
Bryan has faced legal troubles in recent years, including arrests related to domestic violence. In February 2024, Zachery Ty Bryan was arrested in California for driving under the influence, followed by a similar arrest in Oklahoma in October of the same year.
Additionally, the actor faced two felony charges in 2020 after allegedly strangling his then-girlfriend, Johnnie Faye Cartwright.
