Kathie Lee Gifford has been married two times. Her first marriage was to a composer named Paul Johnson. That marriage only lasted from 1976 to 1983. Her second marriage was much longer lasting. She married Frank Gifford in 1986, and they remained married until his death in 2015. They had two children together during their marriage, and she has not remarried since.

Gifford used to be a co-host on the TODAY show, but in 2019 she walked away from the show and moved to Nashville where she met a man who made her decide to start dating again. She never revealed the man’s name, but she did confirm that she was in a relationship with someone.

In 2022, she told PEOPLE, “I have someone very special in my life. I’ve discovered that by not talking about it, it stays special.”

She also shared that she was happy with her move to Nashville. She explained, “I’ve found personal happiness here, is the best way to say it.”

Now, in 2024, Gifford has shared with PEOPLE that the relationship with the unnamed man is officially over. On April 24, she explained, “I was in a relationship for several years that just ended recently. And you know, it’s always hard because when you love someone, you love someone deeply. It’s something you miss when it doesn’t last.”

It seems that she had strong feelings for her ex, but she also seems very optimistic about the future and moving on. She shared, “You aren’t supposed to marry everyone you fall in love with. And I don’t want to love easily. I’ve been loved three times in my entire life. It’s the people who have meant something deep and powerful in your life that are the hardest things to get over.”

Gifford also shared something that she learned through the recent breakup. She said, “My new mantra was going to be my joy is non-negotiable. I’ll negotiate time. I’ll negotiate money with you. But my joy, I can’t.”
