Back in 2001, comedian Sacha Baron Cohen and actress Isla Fisher met at a party in Sydney, Australia. For Cohen, it was instantly love, and the two former strangers ended up getting married and having three children together.

Through their relationship, like with any relationship, there were bumps in the road, for example, Fischer told Conan O’Brien that it was sometimes hard to be married to someone who can be inappropriate in social situations and who can sometimes create awkward situations for her when she’s with her family. Regardless, they managed to chose love and stay together.

Then, in 2023, they changed their minds, but they didn’t announce the news publicly. It turns out that the former couple jointly filed for divorce in 2023, but they only decided to make the news public when Page Six found out that they were no longer living together and asked for them to comment on the situation.

Cohen and Fisher commented on social media by each posting the same Instagram story. The story features a picture of the former celebrity couple wearing tennis outfits, and the text over the photo compares their marriage to a tennis match. The story explains, “After a long tennis match lasting over twenty years, we are finally putting our racquets down.”

The statement continued, “In 2023 we jointly filed to end our marriage. We have always prioritized our privacy, and have been quietly working through this change. We forever share in our devotion and love for our children. We sincerely appreciate your respecting our family’s wish for privacy.”

The statement was released one week after actress Rebel Wilson called Cohen “a massive a**hole” during her time working with him on the movie “The Brothers Grimsby” in 2016. She went into more detail in her memoir, “Rebel Rising,” where she spends a chapter dishing about his bad behavior.

Representatives for Cohen claims that Wilson’s claims about him are “demonstrably false.” The Wilson controversy also supposedly has nothing to do with Fisher and Cohen’s decision to make their divorce public since they filed for divorce last year, long before Wilson’s claims about Cohen.

Before publicly announcing their divorce, Fisher and Cohen were each spotted out in public without their spouse. For example, they attended Oscar parties separately. It raised speculation about the status of their relationship when Fisher seemed to be hiding her ring finger at the Vanity Fair party.

Does it surprise you that Cohen and Fisher filed for divorce after more than 20 years of marriage? Does it surprise you that they were able to keep the news out of the public eye for so long?
