Burger King Is Giving Out 1 Cent Whoppers, But You Have to Go to McDonald’s to Get One

Burger wars have been around since the birth of fast food. Take your pick from McDonald’s, In-N-Out, Burger King, Wendy’s, Five Guys, and the list goes on. Some of them have even take slick shots at each other on social media.

Burger King has decided to deliver blows to McDonald’s through giving out Whoppers for a penny. Doesn’t sound too shady, right? Oh, but it is because there is a catch. You have to be at a Mickey D’s for the deal to work.

Looking to entice customers into using their mobile app, Burger King requires that you place an order through the app while in the vicinity of a Mickey D’s restaurant. Funny, huh? That is the only way to access the 1-cent burger promo.

The app features a geo-locator feature with nearby McDonald’s locations loaded up in it making it easy for Burger King to verify your true whereabouts. You’ll then be directed to the nearest BK to pick up your penny burger. How’s that for food tech?

If you haven’t signed up for the app yet, note that this promotion is available until December 12. After that, you’ll just have to pull up to a Burger King and pay full price for your Whopper. But in the meantime, you can just have fun with this one if you don’t mind driving to two different places.

Watch the video from Buzz60 to hear about how confusing the food war tactic has been for some customers. Now that we’ve broken down how this whole thing works, don’t wind up at McDonald’s like a lost sheep looking for a meal.
