Louetta is certainly a pretty name, but it also isn’t a common name. Now, Rumor is sharing how she ended up deciding on the name Louetta for her daughter.
It might be easy to assume that Rumor wanted an unusual name for her daughter since she and her sisters (Scout and Tallulah) also have unusual names, but that wasn’t the case. Instead, early in her pregnancy, Rumor and her boyfriend, Derek Richard Thomas, were texting back and forth brainstorming baby name ideas.
One name idea the couple had was the name Loretta. Rumor explained to People how Loretta became Louetta. She said, “We were thinking about the name Loretta, and it was a typo. Her dad and I were texting, and he left the ‘R’ out of Loretta, and it was just Louetta.” She continued, “I was like, ‘Oh, I love that!’ I feel like it was one of those kind of divine intervention universe moments, and we figured it out actually quite early in my pregnancy.”
Rumor loved the name Louetta so much that she decided she was going to call her baby Lou whether her baby was a boy or a girl, but she really hoped she had a daughter she could call Louetta.
Even though she loved the name Louetta, Rumor admits that she had some doubts. She explained, “What was scary was, I love this name, but oh man, is it going to be her name? Is it the right name?”
Now that Louetta is here, Rumor doesn’t have doubts about the name anymore. Instead, she and Derek think it’s a great name because it allows for some versatility. Rumor explained, “If she doesn’t feel like a Louetta, she can go by Lou, she can go by Etta. She can go change it up throughout her life. Whatever she wants.”
Rumor truly seems to be loving motherhood. A month after her daughter’s birth, Rumor wrote a touching message to her daughter. “I have waited and dreamed of you my whole life. You are more than I could have ever imagined.” She added, “It is the privilege and honor of my life to be your Mother and I will do everything and anything for you always.”
