In 2016 singer Britney Spears met model Sam Asghari on the set of her music video for the song “Slumber Party.” After years of dating and the end of her conservatorship, in 2022, Spears and Asghari finally got married in a private wedding at their home.
In March 2023, rumors began to spread that their was trouble in the couple’s marriage. The rumors started when Spears and Asghari were both spotted with something missing from their hands – their wedding rings. They brushed off the rumors. At the time, a representative for Asghari claimed he took off his ring because of his role in a movie.
Now, in August 2023, it appears that the rumors are actually true. On Wednesday August 16, 2023, Asghari filed for divorce. Now, he’s speaking out about his decision. In a post made to his Instagram stories, Asghari explained, “After 6 years of love and commitment to each other, my wife and I have decided to end our journey together.”
While Asghari clearly admitted that the marriage was over, he claims there is still love between himself and Spears. He wrote, “We will hold onto the love and respect we have for each other and I wish her the best always.”
Asghari acknowledged that he realizes there’s no point in asking for “privacy.” Instead, he asked “for everyone including the media to be kind and thoughtful.”
In addition to Asghari’s post, his representative, Brandon Cohen from BAC Talent, also shot down rumors that Asghari plans to threaten Spears in order to change their prenup. Cohen explained, “There are many claims that Sam is challenging the prenup and threatening to exploit his ex-wife with videos; however, all these claims are false, as no negative intention has ever been directed towards her and never will be. Sam has always and will always support her.”
Meanwhile, Spears has yet to publicly acknowledge that her marriage to Asghari is over or that he has filed for divorce. Instead, she’s focused on buying a horse. One day after Asghari filed for divorce, she posted a picture of herself on a horse and captioned the post, “Buying a horse soon!!! So many options it’s kinda hard!!!”
