Researchers Reveal ‘Golden Trio’ of Moves that Are Key to Boosting Female Orgasms

Let’s talk about sex, baby. Let’s actually talk about the big O—the female one, to be exact. Did you know that many women have a hard time getting there?

In fact, only 65% of heterosexual women said they usually or always orgasm when engaging in sexually intimate moments, according to a new study published in the journal of Archives of Sexual Behavior.

If that number doesn’t seem that low to you, that’s compared to 95% for heterosexual men 89% for gay men, 86% for lesbian women, 88% for bisexual men and 66% for bisexual women. Yikes.

The problem is that it turns out that sexual intercourse isn’t the best way most women get there—though their partners seem to think it is.

“About 30% of men actually think that intercourse is the best way for women to have orgasm, and that is sort of a tragic figure because it couldn’t be more incorrect,” said co-author of the research Elisabeth Lloyd, a professor of biology at Indiana University and author of The Case of the Female Orgasm.

Because of this misconception, more heterosexual women are having a harder time getting there and because of THAT, more women are faking their orgasms. The study found that while 41% of heterosexual men reported that their partner always reached orgasm, only 33% of heterosexual women said that they did. It’s a vicious cycle.

But ladies, we’ve got some good news: You don’t have to fake it anymore! The study offered some pretty useful sex ed that revealed the exact formula to get heterosexual women to reach orgasm. Guys, are you listening?

It’s called the “Golden Trio”—and for good reason: It’s three moves that are literal gold to knocking a woman’s socks off in bed. Here they are:

1. Deep kissing

2. Manual genital stimulation

3. Oral sex (on top of vaginal intercourse)

The research showed that the Golden Trio is said to bring more frequent orgasms to women. Hey, it’s science!

That’s not to say that just because you perform these moves, the lady is going to be screaming your name—don’t forget that it’s also important to be open with your partner and communicate what you like and dislike—not everything that works for one person will work on another.

“Women really are tremendously variable in how readily they orgasm and what makes one woman orgasm can be quite different than what makes another woman orgasm,” said David Frederick, lead author of the research from Chapman University. “Explicit and direct communication with one’s partner is key.”

More good news: The study also showed that orgasms are good for us and our relationships. In fact, women who frequently reached orgasm were more likely to have a longer duration of sex and were more likely to have a higher relationship satisfaction.

So what are you waiting for? Go grab your partner and get it on!
