Grammy Award Winner Reveals She’s Suffering From Sciatica

Some of Adele’s fans celebrated New Year’s Eve by seeing her perform in Las Vegas. During her Weekends with Adele residency at The Colosseum venue at Caesar’s Place, Adele not only performed but also gave away t-shirts via a t-shirt cannon and made a confession.

While Adele was walking across the stage with the t-shirt cannon, she was noticeably hobbling. She told the audience, “I have to waddle these days as I have really bad sciatica.”

According to The Mayo Clinic, sciatica is pain that occurs anywhere along the sciatic nerve which runs from the lower back, down the hips, buttocks and legs. The pain can range from mild, like an ache, to more severe, like a burning sensation. It can also cause numbness and tingling.

Sciatica can be caused by a herniated disk or bone that puts pressure on the nerve. In most cases, it is mild and goes away in a few weeks.

Adele has previously explained that she has suffered from back pain for a long time. In November 2021, she told The Face, “I’ve been in pain with my back for, like, half of my life, really. It flares up, normally due to stress or from a stupid bit of posture.” She added, “I slipped my first disc when I was 15 from sneezing. I was in bed and I sneezed and my fifth one flew out. In January, I slipped my sixth one, my L6. And then where I had a C-section, my core was useless.”

After losing weight, Adele felt some relief from her pain. She explained, “Where I got my tummy strong, down at the bottom, which I never had before, my back don’t play up as much. It means I can do more, I can run around with my kid a little bit more.”

Does it surprise you that Adele has suffered from back pain for so long? Have you ever had sciatica pain?
