Back in 2o21, actress Christina Applegate told her fans on social media that she had been diagnosed with MS “a few months ago.” Now, in 2024, Applegate finds herself in depression and “darkness” that is greatly impacting her life.

Page Six reports that on a recent episode of her podcast “MeSsy” that she cohosts with actress Jamie-Lynn Sigler, who also has MS, Applegate opened up about her emotional state while dealing with MS. She explained, “I’m in a depression right now, which I don’t think I’ve felt that for years.” She continued, “Like a real, f–k-it-all depression where it’s kind of scaring me, too, a little bit because it feels really fatalistic. I’m trapped in, like, this darkness right now that I haven’t felt [in], like, I don’t even know how long, probably 20-something years.”

Applegate even described her surprise appearance at the 2024 Emmy Awards, an experience that many people would probably dream about, as “the hardest day” of her life. She added that she spent the following two days sleeping.

In case she wasn’t already blunt enough about how she feels about living with MS, Applegate added, “This is being really honest … I don’t enjoy living.” She added, “I don’t enjoy it. I don’t enjoy things anymore.” She also added that she doesn’t enjoy “the process” of doing things many people would find easy like going for a walk or going to get coffee.

While Sigler acknowledged that it’s not easy to live in a broken body, and told Applegate that she won’t allow her to give up on living her life. She explained, “I sit here across from you, and you still make me laugh like nobody else can. You still make me smile. You make me feel loved. I can’t let you give up. I can’t. I need you to do it for me.”

Applegate shared that she will contact her therapist even though she doesn’t want to let out her emotions. She said, “I’m so afraid for those floodgates to open and that I won’t be able to stop.”
