4 Cheap DIY Mosquito Repellents

My least favorite thing about summer may be the appearance of lots and lots of mosquitoes. I can deal with the humidity and the thunder storms, but those creepy little critters always seem to find me any time I’m outside and feast on my skin. Since I’d hate to spend an entire summer scratching, I was excited to find this short but helpful roundup over on Wise Bread. Take a look at some of the cheapest and easiest homemade mosquito repellants from around the web:

Garlic Mosquito Repellent by Tipnut:

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Minced garlic
  • Mineral Oil
  • Lemon Juice

Here’s what you do:

Mince a few cloves of garlic then cover with mineral oil. Allow it to sit for at least 24 hours. Next you take a teaspoon of *just the oil* and mix it with 2 cups of water and 1 teaspoon of freshly squeezed lemon juice. Strain through a cheesecloth if you have any floaties then pour into a spray bottle. Shake before each use.

Vanilla Mosquito Repellent by Nora from Wise Bread:

All you need for this one is vanilla extract. Simply apply some vanilla extract or vanilla essence to your pulse points. Mosquitoes won’t be buzzing around you anymore.
