What NOT to Buy in March

March is a great month for some bargains, but there are some purchases you’ll want to steer clear of until late spring, or even later, to be able to take advantage of the best deals. Here are 5 things you should avoid buying in March if you can.

Spring Clothing

While Spring may still seem far away, it’s not a great time to take advantage of sales on spring apparel. You’ll see spring clothing in stores, but it will still be mostly priced at or close to the recommended retail price. Wait a couple of months to start seeing the prices drop.

Lingerie

You may think that prices would drop on sexy lingerie after Valentine’s Day, but that’s not generally the case. From DealNews:

[…]although we do indeed see some price cuts, it’s not really the best time to buy underthings. Instead, wait for June and July; that’s when Victoria’s Secret unveils its famed Semi-Annual Sale, and last year around the same time, we also saw excellent markdowns from a plethora of other retailers like Frederick’s of Hollywood, Maidenform, and Bare Necessities.

Gym Memberships

Gyms are still pretty packed with people who signed up at the beginning of the year to kick off their weight loss resolutions. So wait until at least April when people start dropping and gyms start pulling out deals again.

Patio Furniture

In March, all the new patio furniture in stores is new and at peak price. There will be a lot of inventory to choose from, but you’re not likely to save much. If you really want to score a deal (like half-off) you’ll want to hold off on purchasing until the end of summer.

Athletic Shoes

You’ll probably end up paying full price if you get athletic shoes in March. Wait until Spring and warmer weather get closer to save about 30% on this kind of footwear.
