After Months of Strict Lockdowns, Water Party in Wuhan Attracts Thousands

We all want life to return to normal, but in the United States, we’re not quite there yet. Social distancing, face masks and lots of hand washing are all highly recommended.

We’re not sure if this story will give you hope for the future or if you’ll find it highly disturbing. It’s probably one or the other.

This past weekend in Wuhan, China, yes, where the coronavirus originated, a huge crowd packed a water park from shoulder to shoulder to enjoy a music festival. Nobody wore a face mask. There was no sign of social distancing.

Wuhan was the first place to go on lockdown, and it was a strict lockdown that lasted for 76-days. Slowly, things started to go back to normal, and perhaps the images from this water park music festival show that the restrictions in Wuhan are a thing of the past.

The Wuhan Maya Beach Water Park reopened in June. The water park has limited guests to half capacity, but based on images from the music festival, it doesn’t look like any sort of social distancing is being enforced.

Guests sat on inner tubes and waded in the water while enjoying the electronic music festival on stage. Watch the video below for more details.

If a water park had a party like this in the United States, it would seem scary right now, but there hasn’t been a new coronavirus case in Wuhan since May. Many people who have commented on this video believe that the people of Wuhan deserve to have some fun. One comment reads, “after months of THE strictest lockdown, the people of Wuhan is entitled to have some fun, especially after the virus has been eliminated from the city and most of China.”

Another person wrote, “Wuhan deserves a celebration, for it’s the city that showed the world that COVID-19 can be beaten.”

It’s also good to remember that while this water park looks packed, this is what half capacity looks like. It’s not like things are 100% back to normal in Wuhan, but it’s hard to imagine more people being able to fit inside this water park.

One way to look at this is that Wuhan has beaten the virus and if things have returned to normal there, one day they will return to normal everywhere.

Another way to look at this packed water park is in fear. As one person commented, “So we can exspect yet another WAVE right.”

Yet another comment reads, “Should be careful before the covid vaccine.”

Do you find the images from this water park music festival in Wuhan hopeful or concerning?
