How Many Times Do You Wash New Clothes Before Wearing Them? You Might Change Your Mind After You Watch This
I know I’m not the only one who has done this. You buy an awesome new shirt and, so excited by your new purchase, wear it that night or almost immediately after the sale without washing it. What’s the big deal? It’s coming brand new from a store after all, it’s not like a piece of thrift store clothing that’s been donated. The frightened truth is, that assumption couldn’t be more wrong. New clothing that we assume is clean could potentially have the same bacteria that a secondhand piece of clothing might have. Watch the video below to see firsthand just how unclean our supposedly “new” clothes are.
The results of this study conducted by the CBS 21 News team compared new and used clothes. Both were tested for levels of harmful bacteria – and BOTH items of clothing came back positive. Meaning those brand new clothes…not quite as new as we thought.
The best explanation for our new clothes containing as much bacteria as secondhand clothes is shockingly simple. People have either purchased the new clothing, worn and returned them, or simply tried them on. Even if clothing was just tried on, there’s no way of knowing what bacteria that individual was carrying on them. A few seconds of contact with the body is all it truly takes to get a new piece of clothing dirty.
Wow. Needless to say, I will be washing all of my new clothes from now on!
