Mom Files Lawsuit After Son Doesn’t Make the Varsity Soccer Team

Sports are big business in high school— if you have a kid who is into them, you know that either making the team or not making the team can seem like life and death to the youngster, and as a parent, you want to do anything you can to support them. Having said that, most parents don’t feel the need to sue their child’s school if they don’t make the varsity team.

As a matter of fact, the very idea sounds like it belongs in a bad movie, but that very scenario is going down at Ladue Horton Watkins High School in St. Louis, MO. There, a mother of an anonymous junior is suing the high school for discrimination for refusing to give her son a spot on the junior varsity soccer team.

You see, the activities department at this particular school has a policy which states that any student who has already played on a junior varsity team and is subsequently denied a spot on the varsity team cannot again play on JV. It’s a policy that the mother of the student says is discriminatory because the very same policy does not apply to girls teams. girls’ is why she has decided to take her owns son’s school to court.
