The Trailer for the Theatrically Filmed ‘Hamilton’ Movie is Finally Here

Hamilton fans, rejoice! If you can’t get enough of the show in a Broadway theater, you’re going to want to get Disney Plus if you don’t already have it. The movie is set to drop on the streaming service on July 3, and thanks to a brand new trailer, we finally have more information about what we can expect.

The film will feature the original cast members from the show. That’s because the way the movie was filmed is pretty unique.

“It was basically a three-day film shoot with the best-rehearsed cast in the history of the movies because we’ve all been doing this show for a year at this point,” explained the show’s creator and main star, Lin-Manuel Miranda.

So, really, the film will showcase the best of the best of the actual Broadway show. It was filmed during a live performance on a Sunday matinee in 2016, followed by more shots on Monday and Tuesday, topping it off with another live performance that Tuesday night.

All of the different shots on different days allows the film to feature many different camera angles—something you wouldn’t be able to get from seeing the performance in person.

Plus, with Broadway shows being shut down until further notice thanks to the coronavirus outbreak, this is the perfect chance to get your Hamilton fix without leaving the comfort of your home.

“Our biggest issue has always been accessibility, so I’m really glad we had the luxury to basically shoot an independent film in our first year and now the world can see what it felt like to be in that room in June 2016,” Miranda said.

Don’t have Disney+ yet? Memberships begin at just $6.99 per month, with discounts available for purchasing a year of membership in advance. It’s worth it, even if this movie is the only thing you watch!

Never seen Hamilton before? There’s no better chance to start your obsession. The musical tells the story of American Founding Father Alexander Hamilton in a unique, lyrical way. You’ve got to experience it to really understand why it’s such a popular show.
