Tom Hanks Reveals His Reason for Declining Jeff Bezos’ Offer To Go To Space

There aren’t very many people in the world who have been to outer space, yet many little kids dream of going to space one day. For that matter, many adults dream of going to space one day. Look at Jeff Bezos and Richard Branson. At this point it shows that a dream and a lot of money is all it takes to make that dream a reality.

After Bezos’ flight to outer space, he created the opportunity for another famous face to make history. William Shatner of “Star Trek” fame made history as the oldest person to ever go to outer space. That’s amazing and monumental, but what we didn’t know at the time was that he wasn’t the first person Bezos’ called to offer a trip to space.

According to Tom Hanks, Bezos asked him to go to outer space before he contacted Shatner; however, there was one major difference. It seems that Bezos let Shatner have this incredible experience for free, but he wanted Hanks to pay, and as you can imagine, a roundtrip ticket to outer space and back isn’t cheap.

On Jimmy Kimmel’s show, Hanks revealed just how much money Bezos wanted in exchange for space travel. Watch the video below to hear the staggering number and to see how Hanks suggests we can all recreate the experience for ourselves at home.

If you were at rich as Hanks, would you have taken Bezos up on the offer to fly to outer space, or would you have turned it down? Would you go to outer space if you had the chance to go for free? Which famous people would you like to see get the opportunity to go to outer space next? Do you think any celebrities would be willing to pay for a seat on Bezos’ rocket after Shatner got to ride for free?
