Five Members of the TODAY Team Line Up to Get Their COVID-19 Vaccines Shots Live on Their Show

The COVID-19 vaccine has become available to more and more people, and soon it will be available to anyone 16+. While some people are having a hard time getting an appointment to get vaccinated, other people are hesitant to get the shot.

In order to promote getting the vaccine, multiple people have agreed to get vaccinated on camera. For example, we saw former Presidents get vaccinated. We also saw Dolly Parton get vaccinated.

Now, the co-hosts of TODAY are doing their part to promote getting vaccinated. On April 7, 2021, five members of the TODAY show team sat down on the plaza and rolled up their sleeves to get the first dose of the Pfizer vaccine.

Al Roker had previously been vaccinated on the show. He has already received the 1st and 2nd dose of the vaccine. Meanwhile, Hoda Kotb mentioned that she went to Walgreens to get vaccinated.

Finally it was time for Savannah Guthrie, Craig Melvin, Jenna Bush Hager, Sheinelle Jones and Dylan Dreyer to get vaccinated. Pharmacists from Walgreens were there to administer the shots. Everyone got ready, and they did a countdown before getting the vaccine all at the same moment.

Dylan was the only person who even felt the shot. She said that she could feel it go into her arm, and she could still feel it afterwards. Nobody else seemed to feel anything at all.

Savannah expressed how grateful she is to be able to get vaccinated. She explained, “I just think about (how) this is something that has not been done in all of human history, a vaccine in a year. Not just one vaccine, but two, three, four candidates. It’s an incredible feat of science and I love that, and we’re so lucky to get to be the beneficiaries of that.”

Craig said that he was close to tears because he was so emotional about getting vaccinated. He felt very sad about all the lives that have been lost.

New York City health commissioner Dr. Dave Chokshi joined the team live on-air to answer any questions about the vaccine. He mentioned that everyone reacts differently to the shot and that side effects are usually worse after the second dose. He also emphasized that you’re not fully vaccinated until 2 weeks after you get the second shot.
